About
Kathleen Carney is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with an advanced LMHC-D credential and over six years of teaching experience at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ College, where she serves as an adjunct professor in the graduate counseling program. She holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ College and brings a multifaceted background to the classroom and clinical field.
Kathleen is also a Qualified Problem Gambling Professional, Certified Hypnotherapist, and Certified Compassion Fatigue Professional. She is passionate about clinician development and equipping future counselors with both theoretical foundations and real-world strategies.
In her role as Assistant Agency Director at Lexington Center for Recovery, Kathleen oversees fifteen programs across five counties, including outpatient substance use and rehabilitation services, a gambling-specific program, comprehensive outpatient care with Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), and community residential programs. She has dedicated her clinical career to the treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders, particularly the intersection of addiction and mental health, using an eclectic, client-centered approach.
She is a strong advocate for mental health on both clinical and policy levels. Notably, she has given testimony before the New York State Senate on the subject of suicidality—demonstrating her commitment to shaping mental health discourse and legislation.
Outside the classroom, she continues to mentor rising professionals and teach in the CASAC program at SUNY Rockland. She is also the former President of the Rockland County Chapter of NYMHCA (New York Mental Health Counselors Association).
Kathleen is a proud mother of adult twin daughters and believes deeply in the transformative power of empathy, education, and connection
